For The Record

Mercer County & Airport Management Are Spreading Disinformation.
Here’s The Truth… Here Are The Facts!

NO INCREASE TO FLIGHT TRAFFIC?

Trenton-Mercer Airport (TTN) officials claim they do not have to consider environmental impact on the surrounding region because they claim there will be no increase in flight traffic.

Flight traffic at TTN grew 14% each year from 2017-2019 … and yet TTN has no plans to grow?

So the airport plans to spend more than $200M on a new terminal five times its current size and make major airfield changes … and yet TTN has no plans to grow?

This is local government administrative “gas lighting” in the extreme. Mercer County and Trenton-Mercer Airport present inaccurate and contradictory information in an attempt to confuse the public and put off the large and vocal movement rising against this nonsense.

This is a reckless expansion – not “repairs and improvements” as presented by Airport Management and Mercer County officials.

FLIGHT REVENUES WILL NOT GO TO MERCER COUNTY.

In touting this boondoggle, proponents of the Trenton-Mercer Airport expansion constantly reference increasing direct revenues for the county. That is a total misrepresentation.

Flight revenues won’t go to Mercer County. Flight revenues can only be used at the airport in a continuous cycle of maintenance and further expansion.

Mercer County taxpayers will be on the hook for the nearly $200 million in building bonds until they are paid off by passenger fees. Since TTN claims there will be no increase in passengers, at the current passenger numbers, these bonds will take over 70 years to pay off.

JOB GROWTH AND AN ECONOMIC BOOM IS A FANTASY.

Trenton-Mercer Airport expansion promoters promise job growth and an economic boom for the region from the new improved airport.

And yet there is no credible evidence to support any of the promised long term jobs and economic benefits especially, as they claim, if air traffic will not increase.

MAJOR RISK OF PFAS CONTAMINATION OF THE DRINKING WATER

Trenton-Mercer Airport is part of a superfund site and major site work threatens to dislodge toxins which will then flush into the nearby Delaware River Watershed.

The risk of a major PFAS contamination of the primary drinking water source for nearly 17 million people is potentially devastating.

WHERE IS THE COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS?

Mercer County officials admit they’ve never done a cost/benefit analysis for this major airport expansion.

They tout dubious benefits while ignoring damage to home values, health and quality of life of the region. Worse yet, they misrepresent facts and details in order to move the projects forward.

The limited environmental studies done by the airport never look outside the footprint of the airport, completely ignoring the risks to residents including the socio-economically disadvantaged minority communities of neighboring Trenton.

Their ultimate goal is to achieve the airport expansion without ever measuring and understanding the impact of their operations on the health of the residents and natural environment of the surrounding region.

Ultimately the County Commissioners rubber stamp approvals and TTN expansion steamrolls public health and quality of life concerns.
